Messiahs birth from the Beginning.
J.D. Alcala Bennett
Today we are going to ask 7 simple questions about what Scripture foretold concerning the birth of Jesus, then we’ll take a look at what the Old Testament revealed about His coming.
A. Where is the first mention of a coming Messiah Redeemer? And what would he be like?
God promises that the Seed of the Woman will crush the Snake.
So it was promised at the beginning of the Torah, that one day a human woman would give birth to a child who would crush the head of Satan.
B. How would the world know Messiah was born?
Look up Numbers 24:17
God reveals to Balaam son of Beor: A Star will arise from Jacob, and Scepter for Israel.
So we learn that a star would arise to point to the coming of a ruler of the Jews. A King would be born from the descendants of Jacob to rule the Jews.
See Isaías 9:2, 6.
(Note: Hebrew for light is “Or”)
God tells Isaiah: Those who walk in darkness will see a great light. Or Gadol. Like a star? Maybe. Or the light of his countenance.
What we do know is that the Gentile, Wise men from dark Babylon, saw the star and saw the light. The light turned on when they saw this star, and they knew that a scepter had come out of Jacob to rule all of Israel, As the Magi are quoted in Matthew 2:2-3: “Where is the newborn King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.” When King Herod heard of this he became very agitated, and so did everyone else in Yerushalayim.”
C. Who would Messiah be?
Isaiah 9:6 God tells Isaiah: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”
Messiah will be born a baby. The Gov’t will be on his shoulders. Is this the Messianic worldwide reign The Messianic Kingdom? or Herod killing all the baby boys of the Bethlehem region?
Messiah will be Wonderful Counselor, Messiah will be Mighty God. Messiah will be the Everlasting Father. (Yeshua said: I and the Father are echad.) Messiah will be Sar Shalom, the Prince of Peace.
D. But where will this happen?
Micah 5:2 But you Bethlehem, small in the families of Judah.
Where will the Star come from in Numbers? From Judah. So Judah will bring forth a ruler, from the families of Bethlehem, just as David was chosen in Bethlehem as the smallest of his brothers. Remeber when Samuel said to Jesse “Don’t you have any other boys?”
And these prophecies are very specific about Messiah’s relationship to Jesse and the house of King David.
1. This ruler from Bethlehem was not merely born, his origins are from the beginning. In John, Yeshua answered and said: “Before Abraham was, I am.”. Nothing was created that was not created through Yeshua. Everything included Him. If our Jewish people had only believed Micah, then they would have believed Yeshua too. But since they did not believe the prophets or Moses, not really, they did not have the faith eyes to see that Messiah, Immanu-El, was among them. And Yeshua wept that they had not recognized the hour of their visitation on Palm Sunday.
E. When exactly would God send the Messiah, Son of David??:
Amos 9:11-12 “In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old. That they may possess the remnant of Edom, (Esau’s territory, like Petra in Jordan). And all the nations, Goyim, who are called by My name,” Declares the LORD who does this.”
Daniel 9:28: 483 from the decree. Who would have believed Daniel’s prophecy among the Nations?
Well we remember Daniel was a great, and hallowed leader to the astronomers in Babylon. So I believe that they saw God’s mighty power keeping the mouths of those lions closed, and they saw prophecy and great working of the Holy Spirit in Daniel, and their descendants believed his message that Messiah would come with the Star that would rise out of Jacob, from those dry hills in Bethlehem. They were ready for their day of visitation, but what about Jerusalem, the priests answered the question of Herod and did nothing. It was head knowledge, they knew the answer of when and where exactly that God would be with us and did nothing. They died in their sins. So we went to Jewish shepherds, lepers, and Babylonian astronomers. The Nations would come to the brightness of His rising, to the glory of his birth.
Isaiah 60: 3,6,9
Gentiles shall come to your light, light like a star. Kings to the brightness of your rising, the ships of Tarshish first. This is the first coming of Messiah foretelling and pre-figuring how all the Nations and Kings will come to the brightness and rising of Messiah Kings righteous reign. Isaiah 60 is clearly fore-telling Messiah’s Millenial reign, so it’s fitting that King will follow the rising of his light with gold and incense, mounted on camels just as the Wise Men did 2 milenia ago.
F. What should be the response of believers in Messiah?
Psalm 96: 2-3 calls on the righteous to share the good news of his Yeshua with the heathen. “Show forth his Yeshua, his Salvation, from day to day, declare his glory among the heathen.”
Messiah declared to Israel: John 6:29 “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”
The Most High desires for the gentiles to hear and respond to the good news. He declared it again and again in the Tanakh.
Isaiah 9:1-2, 14:1-2, 42:6, 49:1, 55: 4-5
We also see the Lord’s desire for the salvation of the Gentiles in Acts 13:47-48, 1 Tim. 2:4-6, Luke 2:30
You are blessed with good teaching from this church, but do you want to be like the scribes in Matthew 2? Put this good news into action: Declare the glory of Yeshua haMachiach among the heathen. Show forth his Yeshua to the nations. The distant shores of North Africa are not reached. Almost nobody. Spain has a percentage of 1 percent who identify as born-again Christians. The distant shores of Tarshish of Sefarad is where the Most High has called my family to charge head-first into battle, and it is battle taking the Good News into a place where the name of God is blasphemed and his word despised. Spain is lost, Morocco is lost, and our Jewish people are so lost without Messiah. So I ask you, believer, what are you willing to sacrifice as a Living Sacrifice. What way can you obey Acts 1:8 and do your part in taking the Gospel to Judea, Samaria and the Uttermost parts of the earth?
